Calotype

Calotype Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 16, 2026

Calotype does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. The app has no servers, no analytics, and no third-party SDKs. Everything you capture and every setting you adjust stays on your device.

This page explains what that means in practice.

About Calotype

Calotype is a minimal iPhone camera app that captures RAW DNG files and stores them in your Photos library. It is made by Kyle Aaserud / Solmark.

Permissions Calotype Asks For

Calotype only requests two system permissions, and only when they are needed to do something you asked for.

Camera

Required to capture photos. When you grant camera access, Calotype reads live frames from your iPhone's camera sensor so the viewfinder can display a preview and so you can take a picture. Camera frames are processed on your device only. They are never uploaded, logged, or sent anywhere by Calotype.

Photo Library (Read and Write)

Required to save the photos you capture, to show your most recent capture on the camera screen as a thumbnail, and to present the in-app gallery. Calotype reads and writes only the local Photos library on your device. It does not upload, sync, or share the contents of your library.

What Calotype Does Not Do

Data Stored on Your Device Only

A few small pieces of state live in Calotype's sandboxed app container on your device:

If you delete Calotype, these preferences are removed with it. Your captured photos remain in the Photos library until you remove them there.

Children's Privacy

Calotype does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app is not directed at children under 13 and contains no accounts or content uploads that would make it unsafe for younger users.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL and the Effective date at the top will be updated. Because Calotype ships without analytics or accounts, there is no mechanism to notify users individually - please check this page if you want to confirm the current terms.
